On December 9, 2025, the China-Nordic Automotive Cooperation Workshop—Global Partnerships Drive Mobility Innovation was successfully held in Hefei. Co-hosted by the China EV100 and the Hefei Economic and Technological Development Area, the event focused on “New Opportunities, Models, and Pathways for the Globalization of NEV Industrial, Supply, and Service Chains.” It brought together government, industry, academic, and research representatives from China and Nordic countries, fostering new insights and establishing a platform for bilateral NEV cooperation through in-depth dialogue and practical exchanges.

Organized by the EV100 Think Plus and co-organized by the Going Global Super Platform (G100), the workshop received strong support from Chinese and international government agencies and partner organizations, including the Hefei Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, the Hefei Municipal Bureau of Commerce, the Hefei Go Global Union of Manufacturing Industry, Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway), and GREEM.

A representative from the Hefei Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology delivered a speech, while officials from the Hefei Municipal Bureau of Commerce and the Hefei Economic and Technological Development Area also participated in the discussions.

1. Complementary Advantages, Jointly Seizing Green Transition Opportunities

The workshop highlighted that despite being located at opposite ends of Eurasia, China and Nordic countries share aligned goals in advancing NEV development and addressing climate change. As global leaders in green transition, the Nordic countries excel in sustainable policies, environmental technologies, and innovation. China, in turn, has the world’s most complete NEV industrial chain, rapid product iteration, and large-scale markets. These complementary strengths offer significant cooperation potential, which participants explored in depth around the event theme.

2. Leverage Nordic Strengths to Enhance Supply Chain Synergy and Innovation

Strengthen Technological Collaboration for Extreme Cold Conditions: Addressing Nordic climates, both sides can advance joint R&D and align technical standards in battery low-temperature performance, extreme cold vehicle testing (e.g., with Swedish partners like Icemakers), and thermal management systems to ensure product reliability and adaptability.

Build an Economy Ecosystem: Drawing on Nordic expertise in circular economy and battery recycling (e.g., through collaboration with Finnish and Norwegian institutions), promote the development and deployment of technologies for battery testing, cascade utilization, and efficient material recovery, jointly establishing a green, sustainable full-lifecycle battery management system.

Enhance Charging Infrastructure Compatibility: Given the Nordic region’s extensive charging network, explore cooperation on charging interface compatibility, platform integration, and high-power charging (e.g., 800V systems) to improve cross-border charging convenience and user experience.

Establish Localized Service Support: Collaborate to develop standardized after-sales services, digital maintenance platforms, and physical service networks tailored to Nordic market needs. Additionally, explore joint solutions in finance, insurance, and logistics to support NEV globalization and reduce overseas operational risks and costs.

3. Platform Empowerment, Driving Efficient Global Linkages

Liu Xiaoshi, Vice Chairman of China EV100 and Director of GREEM, stated that the G100 aims to efficiently connect China’s supply chain, technological innovation capabilities, and professional services with global market demand, including in Nordic countries. Through platform empowerment, it delivers tailored, one-stop solutions—from product supply and technical collaboration to data services, financial support, and testing and certification—meeting the specific needs of different markets and significantly enhancing the efficiency of global industrial cooperation.

Hosted in Hefei, the “Capital of NEVs,” the event highlighted the city’s role as a core hub of China’s NEV industry. Hefei has established a complete industrial chain covering OEMs, batteries, and intelligent connectivity, with NEV output projected to reach 9% of the national total in 2025—ranking first among Chinese cities. Local representatives expressed strong commitment to further opening-up and deeper international cooperation, inviting global partners to invest and develop in Hefei to advance high-quality industrial development.

This workshop was not only a forum for intellectual exchange but also a launchpad for practical cooperation. It marks the shift in China-Nordic NEV collaboration from consensus to action and from single-trade transactions to full industrial chain synergy. Building on this event as a new starting point, enterprises and institutions from both sides will work together to advance technological innovation, mutual standards recognition, and ecosystem co-construction, jointly addressing global climate challenges and driving green, intelligent, and sustainable development of the global automotive industry.
